“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Whe “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”

When the pumpkin patch comes to
mind it must be October. This was a different kind of trick or treat for me.

No tricks on the first day, just all treats.

The last couple of days in October were post frontal days. The strongest fall northern thus far had blown in on Wednesday.

The pumpkin patch was loaded with redfish all day on Halloween Eve 🎃

The first Redfish I caught was 29” long . I had only been on the water for 30 minutes before I saw this flats monster. What a day on the Texas Flats!

On Halloween I did have a few tricks, “Good Grief Charlie Brown!” However staying with it was a treat!

“Summer to Fall!” Our Summer weather pattern “Summer to Fall!”

Our Summer weather pattern carried over into Fall this year. Not the excessive heat, but warmer than most September’s & October’s up in North Texas!

The fish knows a change is coming with the shorter days and lower sun angle in the sky.

Jim and George had one of the best topwater days I have seen regardless of the time of year!

The weather is changing and the fish know it! Bass must eat in preparation for winter.

“A Birthday to remember - Lucky 13!” Michael “A Birthday to remember - Lucky 13!”

Michael wanted to introduce his son Hays to fly fishing. You can’t ask for a better Birthday present than a guided trip learning how to fly fish. Hays spent his 13th Birthday on the water with his dad Michael.

I would have to say Hays was a quick learner!

A good variety of fish were caught all on topwater!

“Round 4!” Steve came back for the 4th time s “Round 4!”

Steve came back for the 4th time since first fishing with me in February.

That might be better than a 5⭐️google review. 🎣

This time he took his grandson Wes on a hot summertime walk and wade trip.

The fish are still eating grasshoppers on top.

The big fish got away on the jump. That has Steve fired up to come back again.

“ Spotted Bass or Guadalupe Bass? “ Hunter wa “ Spotted Bass or Guadalupe Bass? “

Hunter wanted to learn fly fishing for warm water species. He has fished cold water Trout before on the fly. His wife gave him a gift certificate from me for a Birthday surprise!

It didn’t take long for him to learn how to strip set the fish.

TPWD has confirmed there are Guadalupe Bass in the stream I spend time on up in North Texas. The first pic sure resembles a Guadalupe Bass.

Hunter mentioned that some of the areas on the river reminded him of his Colorado adventures.

“ Keep Learning & Keep Going! “ I had the ple “ Keep Learning & Keep Going! “

I had the pleasure of getting George on the water last week before the 4th of July weekend. His goal was to learn more about Fly Fishing. I made sure that he did!

Terrestrial topwater patterns are still putting a good assortment of fish to hand.

George shared with me all the activities that keeps him very busy. He noted that he could be retired but he keeps going. One of the organizations that he puts allot of time in really stuck with me. Especially after this past weekend of the flooding disasters down in the Texas Hill Country. He works with the Texas Search and Rescue - TEXSAR group.

Thanks George for all that you do!

“Trip to Texas for Bass” Jasmine is from Denv “Trip to Texas for Bass”

Jasmine is from Denver and fishes for Trout on the Fly. She met up with her friend Dan in North Texas so they both could catch their first Bass on the Fly.

I took them out for half a day in the raft. We spent part of the trip wading. Her first Bass was a small Spotted Bass.

Topwater kept the action going. Dan’s surprise catch was a Smallmouth Bass on topwater.

“The Fishing Lessons Continue!” After Marc fi “The Fishing Lessons Continue!”

After Marc first fished with me back in March, he signed up for a May raft trip. However, May was a wet month with much needed rain and the Brazos was definitely “Mighty” and not fishable.

This past Wednesday it was go time.

Marc invited his UT college roommate Rob along.

Gaspergoo, Largemouth Bass & Spotted Bass were all caught!

“Round 3!” Steve is back for the 3rd time sin “Round 3!”

Steve is back for the 3rd time since first fishing with me in February!

This time it was all about catching them on topwater!

Small Brazos tributaries in North Texas are made for summer time fun.

A mixed bag of six different fish species were caught. We lost count on how many were brought to hand, half Bass and the other half included various Sunfish.

“I Like Big Bass” Scott first fished with me “I Like Big Bass”

Scott first fished with me back in March. He has been fly fishing since he was 12 years old. Scott brought his long time friend Nate who is a beginner fly fisher.

Scott fed this big Bass a small Dahlberg Diver. Elephants do eat peanuts!

Nate is holding his first Bass caught on a fly. Nate’s fish was also caught on a topwater fly.

It’s going to be a great summer of Bass fishing after a May with plenty of rain.

“First Timers from Guatemala!” It is easy to “First Timers from Guatemala!”

It is easy to take for granted days spent in the outdoors. However it was a reality check when I introduced a family of 5 from Guatemala how to Fly Fish this week.

They have never fished with modern
equipment, spent time in a river, let alone cast a fly rod. Even a stream side lunch was a new experience on a full day walk & wade trip.

They had joy in walking in a clear cool running river and talking about the various birds that were all around us. Seeing fish swimming in front of us brought anticipation like I have never seen before. Even a few snakes made an appearance which also was a new experience to them.

But when the first fish of many was caught, the excitement was overwhelming! There were numerous group photos.

Never lose touch with where Fly Fishing really takes us!

“Louisiana roots” The last White Bass pic fro “Louisiana roots”

The last White Bass pic from a busy spring.

This is not the first time I have guided Brian. I have known Brian for over 20 years. He is originally from “The Sportsman’s Paradise” state!

Last year he tried to be on my boat for the March White Bass run. However, the rain continued to cause us to reschedule. So this year he booked me for a trip in early April. The rains came after our trip luckily, not before or on our trip day.

Brian has rain super powers, it only rains when he is on my calendar!

When a Fly Shop refers a customer to me, it’s a win win for everyone!

Customer’s enjoy going to local fly shops!

Fly Shops need customers to keep the doors open!

Scott has fished all over the USA, but wanted to see what North Texas has to offer. He is a very accomplished Fly Fisher and enjoyed his day on the water.

He is another first time customer that is already on my May calendar.

“No airline ticket required!” With Marc recen “No airline ticket required!”

With Marc recently retiring, he wanted to learn how to Fly Fish waters close to home in North Texas.

Marc had been a traveling angler out west for cold water Trout as his past work schedule permitted.

Now he’s retired and wanting to learn
to fish warm water species in North Texas.

This day the water was cold and crystal clear. Making for lethargic and spooky Largemouth Bass.

He had so much fun he’s on my May calendar!

“Triple the fun!” Lindy came back to North Te “Triple the fun!”

Lindy came back to North Texas for a third time over a three week period in March.

With Central Texas having low flows from tributaries into the reservoirs, the White Bass run wasn’t up to her liking. So back on the highway to North Texas she went.

This time she took Beth to show her the awesome fishing she had been experiencing this Spring in North Texas.

Lindy with a Brazos River Largemouth Bass as we transition into other warm water species as the water warms up.

Beth set her personal record for the number of fish caught in a day of Fly Fishing.

“Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind?” Dan w “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind?”

Dan who heads up the clubs outings for the Fort Worth Fly Fishers came out to catch some late March Sandies. And he was successful!

The Fort Worth Fly Fishers is the largest fly fishing club in the state of Texas. And Texas has some big fly fishing clubs.

“We are going to do this again!” Kirk and Joh “We are going to do this again!”

Kirk and John use to work together in the Medical field. Now they started fishing together. The White Bass came in both quality and quantity that day.

At the end of the trip they both mentioned to me that they will be doing this again.

“The more you Fly Fish, the better you become!”

Dale & Jim are prior year’s customers that have been learning fly fishing over the last few years.

White Bass are a great way to become familiar with learning how to read water, make casts and most importantly getting the strip strike down as muscle memory. Which is very important for all warm & saltwater fly fishing.

Between the both of them they boated 130 White Bass that day.

“Memories that will last a life time!” Steve “Memories that will last a life time!”

Steve fished with me for the first time this past February!

He had so much fun he wanted to go again a couple weeks later with his 18 year old grandson.

We put in some miles once again on a Walk & Wade trip.

A mixed bag of species were caught.

Steve is a great fly fisher, however his grandson out fished him that day.

Steve has been teaching his grandson how to fly fish since he was a little boy.
